Do not drill into, sand down or scrape your ceilings, or allow others to do so. A small number of ceilings in the flats may contain asbestos fibres. These can cause deadly diseases if they are left to float in the air. It was common to add asbestos fibres to ceiling paint coatings when George Leybourne House was built in the mid-1980s and tests have found at least one flat has a ceiling which was so treated, although other ceilings were found to be free of asbestos. We have been advised the safest option is leave all ceilings undisturbed: do not loosen fibres by drilling or scraping etc.
